Kentucky wine recognized

Journalist Joel Stein drank a bottle of wine from every state for a Time magazine article published in August 2008. His selection from Kentucky was Celebration White by Equus Run Vineyards of Midway.

He liked it.

The Kentucky Proud wine was one of 12 that Stein gave an “excellent” rating. His affirmation was one more step for Kentucky up the ladder of winemaking states.

“People from all over are finding out what we already knew – Kentucky’s grape and wine industry is back,” Agriculture Commissioner Richie Farmer said. “Kentucky was one of the leading wine-producing states in the U.S. before Prohibition. Frankfort welcomes new wine shop

Capital Cellars is located in Downtown Frankfort, and is the new kid on the block. They officially opened on November 21, 2006 and held their Grand Opening on Friday, December 15, 2006.

Co-owners Daniel and Rachel Peake are excited to carry wines from across the state as well as a large selection of other wines. Co-owner Rachel Peake has worked for Monsieur Henri Wine Company and states that she knew she wanted to open a wine shop in Frankfort.

The shop offers free wine tasting every Thursday and Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. as well as educational tastings on Mondays and Tuesdays. Educational tastings cost $10 a person for five different wines.

They have a wine bar and tables (constructed from old church pews) where customers can sample wine. Because of a recently passed law, customers can now enjoy part of a bottle of wine at the bar and save the rest for later.
